Task: Color-Correct & Retouch Photograph of Sculpture for Gallery Exhibition
When retouching photography of sculptures and other three-dimensional artwork, an understanding and command of lighting, along with a keen eye for composition, is essential.
This image, a photograph of the sculpture Inverted Collector, by artist Miriam Ellen Ewer, was needed for a gallery exhibition in Amsterdam. In lieu of displaying the actual sculpture, the photograph of the sculpture was exhibited instead.
Color-Cast, Distracting Elements, Lighting
Three things needed to be addressed to get the photograph to exhibition quality: Remove the color-cast, eliminate the distracting elements in the background, re-light the sculpture. I discuss the project in detail in this blog post, Flawless Reproductions, The Junction of Art & Technology.
