Task: Match the Color in a Print Reproduction to the Original Painting, Exactly
When given the task to scan and make prints of a painting comprised of just one hue, the final result better match the original painting exactly. Nothing less is acceptable.
This painting, titled Red Bubble Wrap, is by Boston artist Berio Gizzi.
Evaluating Color & Contrast
The red in the original RAW capture was a bit too saturated, and the overall luminous a bit too bright. It took two adjustments to get to the final file. One correction for color. One correction for contrast.
Measuring Success
The proof is in the pudding. When a print made from the “After” photo is held next to the original painting, it is a dead-on match. Success!
