TASK: Build a Product Prototype to Pitch a Product Idea to Art Licensors

Engage All The Senses With Beautiful Packaging

A rose-scented bath is nourishing for the body and spirit. Why not have the bottle holding bath salts also be nourishing? A beautiful bottle provides a full sensory experience. A wonderful aroma from the salts and, an artfully designed bottle—a treat for the eyes!

Don’t Tell Me, Show Me

The idea for this photo composite grew out of a project to create a series of visual prototypes to pitch licensing ideas to potential art licensors. We wanted to show product designers ways in which paintings could be used to create artful products and beautiful packaging.

The Retouching

As shown in the After/Before slider, a clear glass bottle was transformed into a bottle wrapped in a bouquet of pink roses. A very chewed-up cork was made whole, a peach-colored ribbon changed to pink, and the rose petal and cloth minimized in service to the composition.

The Composite

In creating the composite, it was paramount to maintain the translucency of the glass. The painting needed to merge with the glass bottle, not obscure it. The highlights and reflections—what makes glass look like glass—needed to be preserved. Otherwise, the shape and form of the bottle would have been lost.

The Takeaway

Do you have a product idea you want to pitch to a boss or a licensor? Don’t just describe it, show them your idea visually. A product prototype, created with photo compositing, is a great way to do it. A presentation, that includes a “Show & Tell” is an extremely effective way to pitch your idea.
