Task: Correct Perspective and Improve Color, Tone, and Saturation
Lifestyle Still Life Product Photography
Lifestyle photographs, showing products in home environments, provides an authentic glimpse into how a piece complements living spaces and highlights their aesthetic appeal.
This image, another still life I designed and photographed for the Melody The Artist Home art coaster collection, was shot on location under available light. As evidenced by the prominent highlight on the teapot, diffused north light from a large window suffuses the setup. To the right of the still life, I positioned a reflector card to bounce light into the shadow side.
Editing Perspective & Color
The post-production work was two-fold: first, correction to the perspective and second, enhancing the color, tone, contrast, and saturation.
In the original capture, I felt the teapot is a bit too dominant. By utilizing the lens tilt and swing options in Photoshop, I altered the perspective slightly. This subtle but important edit makes the teapot appear smaller thereby bringing further emphasis to the coasters.
Next, I turned my attention to the color. Adjusting the overall color balance from cool tones to warmer, saturated hues results in a visually appealing and inviting photograph, and more accurately reflects the actual colors of the artwork on the coasters.
Advertising & Sales Promotion Collateral
The photograph was used in ads and in print and digital marketing collateral to drive traffic to the e-commerce site where the coasters were available for purchase.
